l am interested in becoming a teacher, preferably for middle school. l would love to become aTeacher of Literatures in Film, it is a class mainly focused on books that have become films and an in-depth look into films.

The only problem is l do not know how l go about making this come true. l am attending LaGuardia Community College in the Fall and will like to get some information on how to become an Literature in Film teacher.

Planning to become a Literature in Film teacher, how do I go about achieving this

Film is an elective course, usually under the auspices of the English Department. It is unrealistic to go into teaching with the plan to teach only one course (and an uncommon one, at that), so broaden ur goal to become an English teacher. Then u will need to find (and get hired by) a school that offers film to its students. And then u will need to convince the department chair why u should teach that course instead of the other English teachers. It will by no means the only course u will teach, however; plan on it being offered once or twice a year, with ur teaching schedule filled up by other English classes.

I do not know how it works over yonder, but in Oz to be a teacher u go to uni for four or five years (depending on ur degree), & focus on two or three electives. I am using acting & Literature.

The class u r describing sounds more like a unit of work that might have been completed in an English classroom, than an actual separate class. That is in fact a topic that is required to be taught by the NSW syllabus.

Look into doing a degree in Literature with a minor in film or acting. That should set u up.

The other thing is, teachers often end up teaching other subjects than the one they want to. So be prepared not to teach the subject u think u want to. The more subjects u can teach, the more employable u are!

You should look at how many places offer this type of job. I've taught for 17 years, and I've never heard of such a class, let alone a degree. If that is the ONLY thing you could teach, you'd have a hard time finding a position. IMO.
